Any blog represents a constructed self, just a slice of the thoughts and values of the author. What the author selects to reveal and conceal is highly selective, so whether this is “Me” is debatable.
However, in case you are simply trying to figure out whether to bother with considering my thoughts/ trying to fix me, my key ideas, in brief:
- I envision a world of beauty and joy in which humans have transcended their fears and non-adaptive biological drives to achieve the best self possible in the best society possible
- I recognize that this is a profoundly Utopian view, but I feel deeply in my heart that it is worth working towards
- I am interested in exploring what that beautiful world might look like and how to get there. Trust me, I consider enough all the ways in which it won’t work, isn’t possible, and I’m deluding myself. I’ll do that somewhere else, thank you very much.
- I think that developing independence and skill is important in reconnecting with other people and the world around us.
- I am an academic currently living a very practical and manual life (I sometimes claim that I’m an 1850′s housewife trapped in a philosopher’s body.)
- I am highly influenced by Earth-based religions and my extensive training in western science and educational philosophy, and somewhat influenced by Buddhist thinking (although filtered through western teachers).
- I have been accused of being a dilettante. I resemble that remark.

Hi Seonaid,
I sent an email on Sunday re: your Responsible post. That, and so many others moved me to deeply. However, the email address I have may be old.
Thank you for being you.
Namaste,
Melissa
I did get it. I was just so overwhelmed by how wonderful the response was to that post that I had to pause before answering.
